Map of Armenia

Map of Armenia with surrounding areas. - Landkarte von Armenien. - Mapa de Armenia. - Carte de l'Armenie.

Armenia's capital Yerevanis also the biggest city of the country. Flights to Armenia usually go to Yerevan. Armenia is a little country, so that no other cities appear in our map of the world as shown above. Armenia's neighbouring countries are Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Iran. Before 1915 many Armenians lived on the territory of present-day Turkey. In 1915, hundreds of thousands were killed or forced to leave the country - facts that still today repeatedly provoke political troubles between Turkey and Europe. Present-day Armenia derived from the former Socialist Soviet Republic of Armenia.
The official language of the country is Armenian. There are two different lines of this language - eastern and western Armenian - however due to the genocid that happened to the Armenians in present-day Turkey the western line does practically not exist any more. The Armenian script was developed more than 1500 years ago from a Greek script line.
Like all countries of the Caucasus region Armenia is not really a land where tourism is of higher importance. However the country is far less in the headlines than its neighbouring countries. We would appreciate more detailed information, also about tourism, flights, or individual tours to Armenia.

This is our Map of the World with original scripts (original size 70 x 100 cm), from which the detailed map shown above has been cut out. The numbers of city inhabitants and vegetational zones were researched by hand for every country, by using the sources listed below. This procedure prevented the map from containing traditional errors provoked by simply copying such information from previous maps.

The map can be ordered for 11.50 Euros (+ postage and packing) at www.wissenladen.de.

Sources on which the information contained in this map is based:

The vegetational base map was aligned with satellite pictures from Google Earth.

The official names of the countries are quite well researched at www.geonames.de.

Also here you can find information on the geography of many countries: www.geographixx.de.

The numbers of inhabitants of the cities were taken from www.citypopulation.de.

And the mountain peak altitudes were largely derived form www.peakbagger.com.
