areas. - Landkarte von Bhutan.

Bhutan is a small country at the eastern margin of the Himalaya mountains. The little town Thimphu is the capital of the country. Its western name Bhutan is derived from an Indian language, the native name Druk-Yul means literally "Land of the dragon". There are no flights to Bhutan. Travelling there is possible from India, but not really cheap. The government of Bhutan intends to reduce bad influence from western tourism on the country's people by charging per capita fees for each day a foreign person stays in the country. This is to try to protect the sensitive structure of the Bhtan people and to minimize effects provoked by too many tourists visiting such countries. The government however, has only low influence on what happens at the southern margin of Bhutan, in the Brahmaputra plain, where an increasing number of settlements, also by non-Bhutanese people, is observed.
The official language of Bhutan is Dzongkha, which is written with the Tibetan script. The country's native name, Druk-Yul, is given in Tibetan script in our map.
Tourism is important in Bhutan in so far, as that it represents a major source of the country's income. After a long period where tourism had been nearly totally restricted, the buddhist administration has initiated a process of opening the country for tourism to a slightly larger extent. We would appreciate more detailed information, also about tourist groups, guided tours or individual tours to Bhutan.

This
is our Map
of the World with original scripts (original size 70 x 100
cm), from which the detailed map shown above has been cut out. The numbers of
city inhabitants and vegetational zones were researched by hand for every country,
by using the sources listed below. This procedure prevented the map from containing
traditional errors provoked by simply copying such information from previous
maps.
The
map can be ordered for 11.50 Euros (+ postage and packing) at www.wissenladen.de.
Sources
on which the information contained in this map is based:
The
vegetational base map was aligned with satellite pictures from Google
Earth.
The
official names of the countries are quite well researched at www.geonames.de.
Also here you can find information on the geography of many countries: www.geographixx.de.
The
numbers of inhabitants of the cities were taken from www.citypopulation.de.
And
the mountain peak altitudes were largely derived form www.peakbagger.com.

with maps are linked.
