Indonesia's capital is Jakarta, which is also the biggest city of the country. Flights to Indonesia usually go to either Bali or Jakarta. Most people live in Java (Jawa), other important islands are Sumatra (Sumatera), Borneo (Kalimantan), Sulawesi, Halmahera, Neuguinea (Irian Jaya), Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Sumba, Flores, Alor, Wetar and Timor (West).
In the centre of Indonesia is located the island of Borneo (the Indonesian part is called Kalimantan). The largest cities there are Pontianak, Samarinda and Banjarmasin. The Indonesian government has serious problems with overpopulation on the island of Java. Population numbers are increasing without any control, in contrast to China. So programs were installed to settle people from Java on other islands, many of them came to Borneo. Within only a few years nearly the complete tropical rain forest of the flatlands of Borneo was deforested. Also the cities grew (Singkawang, Sintang, Sukaraja, Sampit, Palangkaraya, Balikpapan, Bontang and Tarakan) and it remains only a question of time until also Borneo will not be able to support any more such large population numbers.
The official language of Indonesia is Indonesian (bahasa Indonesia). Besides there are many other languages spoken, but none is officially recognized, some are even heavily suppressed by the government (for example Papua languages in Irian Jaya/New Guinea).
Tourism is of regionally high in Indonesia, for example in Bali. We would appreciate more detailed information, also about tourism, flights, or individual tours to Indonesia.

This
is our Map
of the World with original scripts (original size 70 x 100
cm), from which the detailed map shown above has been cut out. The numbers of
city inhabitants and vegetational zones were researched by hand for every country,
by using the sources listed below. This procedure prevented the map from containing
traditional errors provoked by simply copying such information from previous
maps.
The
map can be ordered for 11.50 Euros (+ postage and packing) at www.wissenladen.de.
Sources
on which the information contained in this map is based:
The
vegetational base map was aligned with satellite pictures from Google
Earth.
The
official names of the countries are quite well researched at www.geonames.de.
Also here you can find information on the geography of many countries: www.geographixx.de.
The
numbers of inhabitants of the cities were taken from www.citypopulation.de.
And
the mountain peak altitudes were largely derived form www.peakbagger.com.

with maps are linked.

Commercial
reprints of detailed maps like this one, including on commercial web pages,

We will be pleased to grant such a permission, prices are individually negociable
and certainly not too expensive. Please contact fwelter#gwdg.de (replace # by

Reprints
for non-commercial purposes are even less complicated - but also in these cases
please inform the publisher in advance, and in any case mention the source www.planetposter.de.
